Three Habits to Grow Your Business Faster

Right now you probably already know what you should be doing on a regular basis to grow your business or organization. Chances are you’ve made several lists with those items on them (or thought those thoughts many times if you’re not a list person :-). Yet, still you aren’t doing them.

Depending on your business and at what stage of development you’re at those items could vary tremendously.

•    Personally call and talk with five customers per week
•    Make five outbound calls per day to generate new customers
•    Cast vision in every communication with employees, vendors and customers
•    Review the daily cash report and manage accordingly
•    Create one new system per week to free me up from being needed “in” the business
•    Contact two potential JV or Strategic Partners per week
•    Spend a half day per week focused on planning for the future growth of my business
•    Invest two hours per week working on my virtual bench (of next recruits)
•    Invest four hours per week developing the skill sets and capacity of my direct reports

You get the idea. The items I’m talking about are those items you’ve thought about for some time saying, “I really need to do this.”

So, here’s what I’d suggest. Make a list of your top ideas (note: this could be a list of five to ten ideas). Then, play off each of those ideas against the others until you can whittle your list of ideas down to no more than three.

For example;

•    Personally call and talk with five customers per week
•    Review the daily cash report and manage accordingly
•    Create one new system per week to free me up from being needed “in” the business

Once you’ve done that, take those three items and schedule them into your calendar at the start of each week. Block out your call times. Block out ten to fifteen minutes at the end of every day to review your cash reports. And block out a one to two hour time block to create a new system each week.

If you did this each quarter (i.e. took some time each quarter and asked, “What are three habits I need to establish this quarter that will help accelerate the growth of my business?”) can you imagine what the impact would be by the end of the year?

Let’s not complicate this. You don’t need any more new ideas for this. Just pick three items. Schedule them every week. Then do them. That’s it! Oh, and then watch the impact!

To your accelerated success!
